Drop in for sensory fun!

Young children can engage their senses by scooping, pouring, shaking, and sorting a variety of materials, and will learn about colors, shapes, textures, and sounds!

Raw Vegan Winter Tips

Get great tips from an expert on how you can maintain a fresh diet and have a vibrant winter.

Ellen Livingston is a certified yoga teacher and has benefited from a raw vegan diet since 2002. Ellen offers yoga and raw food classes in the community and at her home on 5 acres in Ann Arbor. Ellen also offers life coaching and health retreats.

This event is in partnership with the People's Food Co-Op.

Lights, Camera, Austen: the screen adaptations of Jane Austen

Wednesday December 13, 2017: 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm -- Westgate Branch: West Side Room

U-M graduate student instructor Anne Mecklenburg will discuss the many, many adaptations of Jane Austen's work. Have you seen every Jane Austen miniseries multiple times? Remain devoted to the Greer Garson/Laurence Olivier Pride and Prejudice? Really liked that one with the zombies? Loved Clueless? No matter your favorite, this event is a chance to learn more about the history and context of Jane Austen novels on film. Naturally, we'll be watching a lot of clips!

This event is a partnership with the University of Michigan The Life and Times of Lizzy Bennet Exhibit.

Baby Playgroups

Thursday December 14, 2017: 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm -- Westgate Branch: West Side Room

This event is intended for babies up to 24 months.

This is a time for babies up to 24 months and their grown-ups to gather and play. The Library will provide the space and a variety of toys.

Each playgroup includes 15 minutes of stories, rhymes and songs. Parents/guardians must remain with their children.

No older siblings, please.

English as a Second Language Conversation Group

Washtenaw Literacy's ESL groups focus on speaking and listening skills for adults in an informal, relaxed setting. TOEFL preparation is also available.

This special storytime includes 20 minutes of interactive stories, rhymes, and movement, plus 40 minutes of adaptive free play!

This event is designed for young listeners with developmental disabilities and their friends and families.

DIY Bindis

Saturday December 16, 2017: 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm -- Westgate Branch: West Side Room

This event is intended for grade 6 - adult

Come share in the tradition and create your own decorative bindi, using rhinestones and beads.

The bindi, from Sanskrit bindu, meaning "point, drop, dot or small particle," has a long history in South-East Asian tradition. The traditional bindi is a red or maroon dot, applied to the center of the forehead, close to the eyebrows.

Today bindis are popularly worn with the purpose of decoration and style.
