English Country Dance

This event is intended for grade 6 - adult

This introduction to English country dance will prepare you to hold your own on the dance floor at Georgian-era balls and assemblies. A dance master and musicians provided by the Ann Arbor Community for Traditional Music and Dance will lead participants through the basics of a traditional country dance. No experience necessary.

Beginners should arrive at 1pm sharp for a demonstration. Wear comfortable clothes and smooth-soled shoes...or you can arrive in period dress!

This event is a partnership with the University of Michigan Jane Austen 1817-2017: A Bicentennial Exhibit.

MLK Day Event: Rhythm Life Collective Featuring Kevin Jones

This event is intended for all ages

Rhythm Life Collective is a global drumming collective presenting music of West African, Cuban, Caribbean, North African, Brazilian, and Arabic traditions. Group members have traveled to many regions in Central and West Africa, Turkey, and Latin/Central America to study these rich cultural traditions.

The fundamental mission of the group is to manifest spirit in community through performance. A central feature is the opportunity for audience interaction through singing, dancing, or playing instruments right along with the group.

The father/daughter/uncle musical family of Gemily joins AADL’s Laura Pershin Raynor for a musical storytelling program for the whole family.

This concert includes lots of audience participation, Gemily’s songs for children, and collaborative storytelling with their long-time friend Laura.

Black History Month Concert: Gratitude Steel Band

The Gratitude Steel Band has become a familiar name in the entertainment industry. For years, the band has developed music together as a family and performed around the country in festivals, universities, churches, and more. In concert and in educational and corporate settings, they swing with engaging music for all ages.
