Many of her ceramic pieces are whimsical, while others are functional. Several pieces contain animals, birds or flowers, reflecting a fraction of our world. Some of her newer work includes tactile reliefs of homes and structures finished with an oxide wash to color and enhance the details and depth of the structures. Marie began working with clay in 2002 when she participated in a clay workshop, instructed by UM School of Art & Design Professor Sadashi Inuzuka, called "The Many Ways of Seeing."
