Suggest a Title for A Very Good Read: Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Reads 2014 This Year’s Selection Will Be Fiction Suggest “A Very Good Read” to the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Reads planning committees by June 30, and your suggestion just might be the pick for the upcoming community Reads program, which will take place January and February 2014. Committees will meet over the summer to consider title suggestions. Title suggestions may be made by visiting the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Reads website at aaypsireads.org; calling (734) 327-4224; or stopping by any Ann Arbor District Library or Ypsilanti District Library location. The 2014 theme is “A Very Good Read” and the book selected must be a work of fiction. Also: • The writing should be engaging and thought-provoking. • The subjects discussed should be accessible to readers throughout the community, high-school age and above. • The length, price, and availability of the book should be suited to involvement by the general public. • The book should be by a living author. • Its treatment of issues should encourage readers to discuss the issues further with others, at home, work, reading clubs, and community events. • Ideally, the subject should lead to constructive dialogues across our diverse communities. What Is Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Reads? Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Reads is a community initiative to promote reading and civic dialogue through the shared experience of reading and discussing a common book. Launched in 2003, the Reads program has been cosponsored by the Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti District Libraries and is supported by interested civic groups, the University of Michigan School of LS&A, the Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti Public Schools, local bookstores, Eastern Michigan University Libraries and Washtenaw Community College. NLS Audio Magazines Now On Digital Cartridge In the spring of 2013, NLS launched its transition of the magazine program from analog cassettes to digital cartridges. Now all NLS-produced magazines are circulated on digital cartridge. We hope you enjoy the enhanced sound quality and navigation capabilities. As with books on digital cartridge, the magazines need to be returned to help keep costs down and to potentially expand the magazine program. The cartridge loan period for weekly publications is one week after you receive them. The cartridge loan period for monthly, bimonthly, and quarterly publications is one month after you receive them. Please treat magazine cartridges the same as book cartridges; read your publications, return the cartridge to the red container, flip the mailing card on the container, and place it with your outgoing mail. Timely reading and returning of magazine cartridges will help NLS continue to provide the high-quality audio-magazine program you have enjoyed. In some cases, you may receive a magazine cartridge that has more than one magazine on it. The NLS digital talking-book player is equipped with a bookshelf feature to assist you in navigating your digital cartridge. To activate the bookshelf feature, press and hold the green, rectangular Play/Stop button on your player until you hear a beep. Complete audio instructions for using the bookshelf feature are included on all cartridges that contain more than one magazine issue. Keep in mind that any magazine cartridge that has a monthly, bimonthly, or quarterly publication on it—even if it also has a weekly publication on it—will have a loan period of one month after you receive it. Enjoy your audio magazines but please remember to return them. The above photo shows the new red magazine cartridge container.
