Plan Your Financial Future

When you take charge of your financial future with a Money Management course from MSU Extension, you can have more money for the things that make you happiest and save money for life’s storms that come your way. You will learn how to make sound financial decisions, create financial goals, pay down debt and use credit wisely, and create a spending plan to save more.

Dollar Works! Money Management Series is co-sponsored by Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley and will be held on Thursdays August 18, 25, September 1, and 8 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the Washtenaw County Learning Resource Center. Project Act: Advocacy Education for All

Throughout the month of July, the Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living is facilitating a series of workshops offering an opportunity to engage, participate and learn about the First Amendment, civil rights, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and how they can help you advocate for yourself and others.

The Project Act: Advocacy for All workshop series is open to people of all ages and abilities, and will be held at the Ann Arbor CIL unless otherwise communicated. All sessions will meet from 12:00-4:00pm on the following dates:

Gun Safety Week

The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office would like to invite the community to participate again in the annual Gun Safety Week during the week of June 20th through 25th, including national “Ask Day” on June 21st. The purpose of the Washtenaw County Gun Safety Week is to educate and raise awareness about issues related to gun safety and encourage responsible gun ownership.

The annual Gun Safety Week Press Conference will be on June 20th at 10:00 a.m. in front of the Sheriff’s Office main entrance, 2201 Hogback Road, Ann Arbor, MI. All of the Law Enforcement agencies in Washtenaw County will send representatives. If you work for a community and/or mental health agency, and would like to be included as a partner, please call Kathy Wyatt at 734.973.4613 to confirm.

AAATA Expansion Coming in May!

If you haven't heard, this May, AAATA will be expanding services with new routes and improvements-the biggest expansion since 1979!

Download this handy-dandy guide or pick them up at your nearest transit center to see what changes are in store. There will be public meetings about these changes on Tuesday, March 15 at 7pm at the Ypsilanti Township Board Meeting & Wednesday, March 23rd at 10am at the United Way, 2305 Platt Rd., Ann Arbor . More informational meetings will be posted on their site. Won't it will be nice to have a route to our Pittsfield Branch? Oh, the places we'll go!

DEADLINE EXTENDED: Call for Entries from Gifts of Art

Gifts of Art at the University of Michigan Health System is currently accepting proposals for the September 2016-September 2017 exhibition year!

As one of the first and most comprehensive arts in healthcare programs nationwide, Gifts of Art brings the world of art & music to the University of Michigan Health System. Nine galleries display over 50 exhibits a year. They include 2-D and 3-D spaces that are viewed by approximately 10,000 people a day. The galleries are some of the most widely visited indoor, non-museum exhibit spaces in the state.

Gifts of Art is seeking both solo exhibits by individual artists and group exhibits by arts organizations. Selections will be made from online submissions or submissions by mail. Emailed JPG images or in-person submissions will NOT be considered. The submission deadline is May 15, 2016.

Log On to Brainfuse!

AADL subscribes to a live online tutoring service called "Help Now" by Brainfuse, also known simply as
"Brainfuse"
, and is available to anybody accessing it from inside any AADL location, or to cardholders from home or elsewhere.

There are several facets to Brainfuse that not only help with homework & study skills, but skill building and writing support.

Users can log on to Brainfuse to access EXPERT help in a variety of ways: live tutoring any time from 2:00 PM-11:00 PM except on Federal Holidays. Simply choose the grade or age level that suits the user’s needs, be it elementary, middle or high school, ESL or even computers and technology.

SkillSurfer is a learning library that contains thousands of lessons, quizzes, & tests to help users master academic concepts. Check out the STUDY portal and look at FLASHBULB, which is a library full of flashcards & self-tests for a huge array of subjects! Go to the COLLABORATE portal to schedule meetings with friends in their private virtual study rooms. There’s a writing lab where users can upload documents to a teacher and have them edit/critique their work within 24 hours. Brainfuse's "Send a Question" gives users the opportunity to ask a question any time of day and get a written response from one of their tutors within one business day.

Whether you are an English Language Learner, a student of any age or an adult trying to get back into the workforce, Brainfuse may have just the answer to your academic and technical questions.

Safe Medication Disposal Event

The University of Michigan College of Pharmacy & the Yellow Jugs and Old Drugs Program are presenting the Safe Medication Disposal Event on Tuesday, April 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the South side of N. University Avenue, next to the Chemistry Building.

You can drive up or walk to the drop-off station to get rid of your expired or unused medicine.

Proper medication disposal for any expired or unused medications prevents dangerous exposure of drugs to the community and environment. Bring any unused medications for proper disposal, and learn more about safe medication disposal practices and locations.
