VA for Vets Hiring Fair

The Department of Veterans Affairs is hosting the VA for Vets Hiring Fair showcasing careers for veterans in the public and private sectors. This event is June 26–28 at Cobo Center in Detroit and includes on-site job coaching, career and resume-building classes as well as interviews with both federal agencies and private companies. The free hiring fair has over 5,000 jobs committed to veterans. When you register to attend the hiring fair, a coach will call you to help you build your resume and you can sign up for training available during the event. Good luck!

Looking for a Job in Healthcare?

The State of Michigan will host a live virtual career fair on Thursday, May 10 to connect top healthcare talent and Michigan employers with jobs to fill. MiVirtualCareerFair: Healthcare will provide the opportunity for job seekers to connect and interact with recruiters and candidates from wherever you are, upload and submit resumes for multiple job listings, meet other job seekers and employers, view informational videos, and use Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to search for connections and update your status from within the event. The career fair will be live online from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 10. Job seekers can register for the free career fair at www.michiganvirtualcareerfair.com and view informational videos on the virtual environment and how to navigate within it. MiVirtualCareerFair follows the December 2011 launch of Pure Michigan Talent Connect, an online talent marketplace bringing together thousands of jobs, unique career calculators and resources for employers seeking talent.

Did you know that Etsy provides a great way to meet and work with folks who share your interests? Many Michigan artisans join teams to participate in discussion forums, share information, collaborate on projects, and more. One of the Michigan teams is called MICE, which stands for Michigan Indie Crafters of Etsy. MICE has 768 members and is lead by local Ann Arbor artisan, photographer, and business owner, Kate Kehoe.

Join Kate Kehoe, owner of Chicalookate, for an introduction to Etsy. Registration is not required and classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

How to Get a Job in a Tough Economy

The How to Get a Job in a Tough Economy Workshop Series is offered weekly at the Michigan Works! Career Transition Center. The series begins with a 2.5 hour overview which provides the opportunity for participants to learn about the steps to an effective job change or career transition and assess whether they feel they could benefit by more in-depth information on each step. Steps 1 through 6 are 1.5 hour workshops which give participants the opportunity to apply effective transition and search strategies and techniques to their own situation.
